Umr Jalvon Mein Basar Ho

Umr Jalvon Mein Basar Ho Jaroori To Nahi
Har Shab-E-Gham Ki Sehar Ho Yeh Jaroori To Nahi

(It is not necessary that all life should be spent in flamboyance
It is not necessary that every evening of sorrow see the light of the next day)

Chasm-E-Saqi Se Piyo Ya Lab-E-Sagar Se Piyo
Bekhudi Aatho Pahar Ho Yeh Jaroori To Nahi

(Drink from eyes of the bartender or from the lips of the ocean
It’s not necessary you will get self forgetfulness for whole 24 hours)

Neend To Dard Ke Bistar Pe Bhi Aa Sakti Hai
Unki Aagosh Mein Sar Ho Yeh Jaroori To Nahi

(You can sleep even on a bed of pain
It is not necessary for the head to be in her lap)

Sheikh Karta To Hai Masji Mein Khuda Ko Sajde
Uske Sajdo Mein Asar Ho Yeh Jaroori To Nahi

(The Sheikh worships God in the mosque
It is not necessary that his prostrations have any effect)

Sab Ki Nazron Mein Ho Saqi Yeh Jaroori Hai Magar
Sab Pe Saqi Ki Nazar Ho Yeh Jaroori To Nahi

(It is important to be in everyone’s sight but
Isn’t it necessary for the bartender to keep an eye on everyone)

Maikashi Ke Liye ‘khamoshi’ Bhari Duniya Mein
Sirf Khayyam Ka Ghar Ho Yeh Jaroori To Nahi

(In a world full of ‘silence’ for liquor
It is not necessary that it be only Khayyam’s house.
(Khayyam = Persian’s famous alcoholic poet, who was a resident of Naishapur city, his best poetic expression has been found in the symbolic method of alcohol))
