Jagjit Singh Live - Aaye Kuch Abr - Digitally Restored

Aaye Kuch Abr Kuch Sharaab Aaye
Uske Baad Aaye Jo Azaab Aaye

(Let some clouds gather, let some wine be poured,
And after that, let whatever torment follows be endured.)

Baam-E-Meena Se Maahtaab Utre
Dast-E-Saaqi Mein Aftaab Aaye

(Let the moon descend from the rim of the wine-flask,
And the sun shine in the cupbearer’s hand, performing its task)

Kar Raha Tha Gham-E-Jahaan Ka Hisaab
Aaj Tum Yaad Be-Hisaab Aaye

(I was calculating the debts of the world’s sorrow and pain,
But today, your memories returned in a boundless, endless rain)

Na Gayi Tere Gham Ki Sardaari
Dil Mein Roz Yoon Inqalaab Aaye

(The reign of your sorrow never truly left its throne,
Every day, a new revolution in my heart is sown)

Iss Tarah Apni Khaamoshi Goonji
Goya Har Simt Se Jawaab Aaye

(My silence echoed in such a profound and haunting way,
As if answers arrived from every direction to stay)

Aaye Kuch Abr Kuch Sharaab Aaye Ghazal English Translation

‘Faiz’ Thi Raah Sar-Ba-Sar Manzil
Hum Jahaan Pohuche Kaamyaab Aaye

(O Faiz, the journey itself was the destination at every pace,
Wherever we reached, we arrived with success and grace)

Har Rag-e-Khoo Mein Phir Chiraaga Ho
Saamne Phir Woh Benaqaab Aaye

(Let every vein of my blood be illuminated with light once more,
Let my beloved appear unveiled, just like she did before)

Umra Ke Har Warak Pe Dil Ko Nazar
Teri Mehar-o-Wafa Ke Baab Aaye

(On every single page of the book of my life’s story,
The heart sees only the chapters of your kindness and glory)

Jal Uthe Bazm-e-Gair Ke Dar-o-Baam
Jab Bhi Hum Khanakharaab Aaye

(The walls and doors of the rival’s assembly caught fire and glowed,
Whenever we, the ruined wanderers, stepped upon that road)
