गुलज़ार साहब की यह ग़ज़ल ‘बे-सबब मुस्कुरा रहा है चाँद’ चाँद के विभिन्न रूपों और उसकी अठखेलियों का एक बेहद ख़ूबसूरत, रूमानी और जादुई मानवीकरण है। इस कविता में चाँद महज़ एक आसमानी पिंड नहीं है, बल्कि वह एक चुलबुले इंसान की तरह व्यवहार करता है। वह कभी बिना वजह मुस्कुराकर कोई साज़िश छुपाता हुआ सा लगता है, तो कभी किसी की गली से गुज़रकर शरमाता और झेंपता हुआ दिखाई देता है। वह पत्तों के पीछे छिपकर बाग़बान को सताता है, और जब उसे छूकर देखा जाता है, तो ऐसा महसूस होता है जैसे वह दिनभर धूप में खेलकर आया हो और उसका माथा गर्म हो।

कितना ग़ाज़ा लगाया है मुँह पर
धूल ही धूल उड़ा रहा है चाँद

कैसा बैठा है छुप के पत्तों में
बाग़बाँ को सता रहा है चाँद

सीधा-सादा उफ़ुक़ से निकला था
सर पे अब चढ़ता जा रहा है चाँद

छू के देखा तो गर्म था माथा
धूप में खेलता रहा है चाँद
