Top Song Choices of Indian Drivers

This post is only based on my personal observation over the years while traveling in MP, UP, Delhi, Rajasthan, and other Hindi-speaking states of India. I always wonder why most of the time these drivers of auto/bus/taxi listen to sad songs?

They speak different dialect or language but this thread of Sad Songs collection make them equal and united. Here, I am listing top 10 Songs I observed these drivers listening to over the years. I hope some of you might be able to get what I am trying to say with your experiences too. So, here is the list. Please give your comments and SHARE the post if you like this list.

01. Dilwale (1994) – Jeeta Tha Jiske Liye | Kumar Sanu | Alka Yagnik

This I believe is the most favorite of all of them. They listening songs from this movie like “Kitna Haseen Chehra“, “Mauka Milega To Hum Bata Dege” and “Saato Janam Main Tere” from the era of Audio Cassette to the CD player and now even they played the video on Video Coach buses. But this song is their favorite one, seems like most of them failed in their first one side love affair in their locality.

02. Dhadkan (2000) – Dulhe Ka Sehra Suhana Lagta Hai | Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

This song by legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is pretty famous among them. I still can’t find the reason yet but you start get irritated when you trying to take a nap on the bus and that Dhadkan..Dhadkan..Dhadkan..Dhadkan..sounds wake you up for the rest of your journey.

03. Raja Hindustani (1996) – Pardesi Pardesi Jana Nahi | Kumar Sanu | Alka Yagnik | Udit Narayan

My sincere thanks to Nadeem-Shravan for making this music, otherwise what would have been these drivers would listen for all these years. This is like the PANEER of the Sad songs menu. You will find this song in every sad songs collection like you find every other vegetable curry with Paneer in an Indian restaurant.

04. Altaf Raja – Tum To Thehre Pardesi | Album – Tum To Thehre Pardesi (1997)

This 15-minute long song by Altaf Raja is like the USP of sad song collection. Each driver now has those Shayari by heart and they finish the Shayri with Altaf when they listen to this song and enjoy the driving like never before each time. 🙂

05. Rang (1993) – Dil Cheer Ke Dekh | Kumar Sanu

This is also another gem by music duo Nadeem-Shravan. Sung by Kumar Sanu. I don’t find anything so attractive about this song except the fact that it is a sad song.

06. Qayamat: City Under Threat (2003) – Woh Ladki Bahut Yaad Aati Hai| Kumar Sanu | Alka Yagnik

This is another tragic song you might have to face if you asked them to play something. They always like to miss that Special One of their life while driving, and this song is just provides the perfect recipe to do that.

07. Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya (2002) – Mubarak Ho Tumko Yeh Shaadi Tumhari | Udit Narayan

This is another killer song by Nadeem-Shravan helping broken hearts since its release to overcome the pain they feel by the marriage of their love. I believe they love this song so much, they don’t have to join any rehab to overcome the pain caused by the marriage of the girl whom they were loving from childhood and still that girl doesn’t have any idea about their feelings. So, this song is a good choice to express their feeling to passengers rather than the girl. Bravo !!

08. Bewafa Sanam (1995) – Accha Sila Diya Tune Mere Pyaar Ka| Sonu Nigam

This spine-chilling sad song by Sonu Nigam is like the Marijuana of a sad song. When the listener listens to this song they feel no pain anymore, lost in their own world, and start blaming the girl for her fault in love. This is picturized on the chocolaty hero of 90’s Kishan Kumar. He was among the top heroes of the ’90s who share the same dice with Rahul Rawel, Armaan Kohli, etc.

09. Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam (2002) – Sab Kuchh Bhula Diya| Sonu Nigam

Another big sad song hit by Sonu Nigam which is now drivers’ all-time favorite. This song is like the Burnol for their hearts which has still burnt marks given by that girl. They convey the message to the world by the song that now they have forgotten everything which happened but they still want to know the answer, why the hell she has done that to me?

10. Sirf Tum (1999) – Ek Mulaqat Jaruri Hai Sanam| Ameen Sabri & Fareed Sabri

Now I am not wondering this one was also composed by the duo Nadeem-Shravan. Even after listening to these sad songs and blaming the love of their life I feel they want to meet that loved ones for the last time and want to say those things that they are carrying in their hearts for all these years so they can enjoy their present. I believe listening to this song is just a replica of that feeling. I might be wrong, God knows they listen to this song so they can enjoy that sadness even more.

P.S.: Dear Drivers, views, and comments mentioned above in the post are totally personal and not intended to hurt anyone’s feelings. I personally believe people start enjoying any kind of song when they are traveling, whether it’s a sad song or a romantic song but listening to too many sad songs is just not good for others who are also traveling with you in bus or taxi. I hereby conclude this post with a humble request to stop this Emotional Atyaachaar. Thank you so much for reading. Please leave your comments below and you can SHARE this post also if you like it. Thanks!
