Aadat by Gulzar in Roman Transcript
Saans Lena Bhi Kaisi Aadat Hai
Jiye Jana Bhi Kya Riwayat Hai
Koi Aahat Nahi Badan Mein Kahin
Koi Saaya Nahi Hai Aankhon Mein
Paanv Behis Hai Chalte Jate Hai
Ik Safar Hai Jo Behta Rehta Hai
Kitne Barso Se Kitni Sadiyo Se
Jiye Jate Hai Jiye Jate Hai
Aadatein Bhi Ajeeb Hoti Hai
English Translation of Gulzar’s Nazm ‘Aadat’
Breathing, what a habit it is,
Keep Living, what a tradition it is.
No sound resonates within the body,
No shadow resides in the eyes.
Feet move silently as they tread,
It’s a journey that keeps flowing.
For countless years and centuries,
We keep living, we keep living.
Habits are strange indeed.
