रामधारी सिंह दिनकर की कविता “कृष्ण की चेतावनी”, महाभारत के युद्ध के प्रारंभ से पहले का दृश्य प्रस्तुत करती है। जब भगवान कृष्ण, जो पांडवों के पक्ष में हैं, और पांडवो की तरफ से दूत बनकर ‘शान्ति का प्रस्ताव’ लेकर हस्तिनापुर आते है और दुर्योधन को युद्ध टालने का आग्रह करते है। भगवान् श्री कृष्ण कौरवो से कहते है की यदि वे पांडवो को केवल पांच गाँव भी दे देंगे तो भी युद्ध टल सकता है क्योंकि पांडव अपने ही भाइयो से युद्ध नहीं चाहते। किन्तु, दुर्योधन इस प्रस्ताव के उत्तर में कहता है की वह पांच गॉंव तो क्या पांडवो को सुई की नोंक जितनी भी भूमि नहीं देगा। अपितु, दुर्योधन क्रोध में भगवान् श्री कृष्ण को बंदी बनाने का भी आदेश दे देता है।

तब इस कविता में भगवान् कृष्ण का भव्य रूप चित्रित किया गया है। कि, वे ब्रह्मांड के स्वामी हैं, और उनकी शक्ति अथाह है। वे दुर्योधन को युद्ध के विनाशकारी परिणामों से अवगत कराते हैं, और उसे शांति का मार्ग अपनाने के लिए कहते हैं। किन्तु, दुर्योधन, अहंकार और क्रोध से भरा हुआ, कृष्ण की चेतावनी को अनसुना कर देता है। वह युद्ध के लिए दृढ़ है, और विनाश की ओर अग्रसर है। यह कविता अच्छाई और बुराई, शांति और युद्ध के बीच संघर्ष को दर्शाती है। यह कविता युद्ध की विभीषिका और शांति के महत्व का संदेश देती है।
